Woven Assemblages by Sarah Sense

In her new work, Sarah Sense deconstructs five movie posters into a series of four assemblages, each an intricate commentary on popular culture, sexuality, power struggle, and conflict. Sense uses the movie poster, digital prints of herself, visuals of cowgirls, princesses, and Native Americans, as well as clear mirrored Mylar for each woven assemblage. "I'm trying to physically and psychologically deconstruct the movie and change the narrative to empower women and Indians," explains Sense. In essence, her art changes the focus of the poster and reinvents the narrative that runs through her art rather than the movie.

Blue Rain joins SOFA Chicago for a Second Time

One of the coolest shows in the world to celebrate contemporary art is SOFA (International Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art) Chicago. Blue Rain is bringing a select group of artists to this year's 15th Annual Expo — Tammy Garcia, Preston Singletary, Les Namingha, Richard Zane Smith, Tony Abeyta, and Shelley Muzylowski Allen. SOFA showcases only the finest and most cutting-edge works, so it's an honor to be participating in this prestigious international assemblage. Contemporary Native American art has shed the labels of "folk art" and "handicrafts," taking its rightful place in the world of fine art as an innovative force that transcends traditional categories. A look at SOFA Chicago's roster of talent confirms this fact — check it out at www.sofaexpo.com
