Master Glass Artist Preston Singletary

The glass sculpture of Preston Singletary captures and plays to light; his work constantly shifts in space, scale and form, true to its liquid state. There is a quiet precise mass and translucent luminosity, thus evoking a fourth dimension in Singletary’s sculpture. His pioneering of the material of glass, paired with etchings of deep-rooted code give rise to a “reverse primitivism.” Singletary immortalizes ancient ideologies in his work and preserves his Tlingit heritage, maintaining the true primitive condition, yet does so with a mastery of the modern art form. The function of time in the age of exploration where Oceanic, African and Native American art surfaced, allowed artists to reflect on artifacts such as masks and ceremonial objects that illustrated story telling.

Thanks to all who made SOFA Chicago 2008 a success!

Blue Rain Gallery participated in the nation's premier fair for contemporary decorative arts. The crowds were great and the enthusiasm high from both loyal collectors and new collectors alike. Blue Rain Gallery experienced record sales at this year's SOFA, further affirming the significance of its contemporary stable of artists. If you were unable to make it to Chicago, there is always SOFA New York in April 2009. See you next year!
